Our Addition/Remodel

3/17/08:
The biggest track-ho (that's what Dave called it) is headed up to our house at approx. 2 in the afternoon. Things aren't scheduled to begin until tomorrow, but we started moving all of our millions of piles o' shiz out a few days ago. We still haven't really put much of a dent in the storage space we rented, but thank goodness we've got help! Melissa, Steve and Mitch have helped us a TON! And, Dave and Janet have been watching all of our babies and loaned us their truck and trailer...so we've got a whole lot of lifesavers around here to get this party started.

3/18/08: The digging begins, well sort of. I'm recapping since it is actually the 27th of the month now. I'm just trying to catch up. So basically they dug a bit and called it quits about 1/2 hour later. Shane joked about how he wanted to journal the progress and it would say. "They came to dig today and left 1/2 later." Such is life. Hey Taj, (our contractor/friend - Paramount Construction) you've got 8 months (according to the contract). So I'll just try my hardest to not think about how much could be accomplished each day that nothing is happening around here.  They took down our non-functional chimney today, and cut our retaining wall. A guy from a concrete company came by and used this gigantic saw and sawed right into the cement. They needed to cut out a portion of the retaining wall to access the side yard where all of the digging will occur. They also took our fence down and two pine trees (don't worry we'll plant more) and got that giant tractor right up in our sideyard. Success!

Gus and Success!

Maybe I should start from scratch. We've got plans that Carol Mavros did for us (CM Designs) - a friend of the family. Here they are:

We've been talking about this for over a year and it has finally started. It's just surreal I guess at this point.  So I'll do my best to keep the progress on here, and the transformation ought to be mind-blowing!

3/19/08: Took down the latice along the deck (which I hated!) and it's looking awfully different back there now. Yay, change! Rex (the excavator) broke his finger at our house. Taj informed me, "that's just the way the cookie crumbles." I wasn't home, but Shane said that Taj came in the house looking for paper towels sort of chuckling about how Rex had just crushed his finger. Um, pretty glad I wasn't around for that. Don't worry though, he's okay. I asked him the next day (because for some reason he was back at it the next day) his wife is a nurse and he was just fine and dandy. Phew.

3/25/08: I can't remember what other progress has been made until now. Someone named Matt came to start demolishing our basement this morning. And Rex told us that the digging would be done by Friday, so things seem to be moving right along.

3/26/08: The basement is officially gone! In fact you can see the remainder of it, in this black truck in our driveway. And our shower was also laying on the driveway.

3/27/08: That hole is getting deeper. I just didn't have a photo of the dump truck that has been a fixture since the 18th. It's huge!
